Permanent Hair Reduction
Laser hair treatment is also designed for permanent hair reduction, it emits wavelengths of light that penetrate and destroy hair follicles that produce hair. People who undergo this treatment are those who are diagnosed with Hirsutism, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), Ingrown Hair and also those who are not comfortable with hairs on their skin.
However, laser hair treatment does not remove 100 percent of the hair in an area. To achieve total hair reduction in any area, one has to undergo 10 to 12 sessions, which are usually spaced between 4, 5 or 8 weeks apart. Results can last three to six months or longer before hair grows back visibly. Any hair that grows after 12 months is new hair that can develop due to numerous factors such as age, medical conditions or hormonal changes.
Laser hair treatment can be performed on all skin types and colours. Depending on how many treatments you receive, most of the treated hair can be destroyed. There are some slight side effects after the laser session, which include blistering, swelling, redness and scarring when you are diagnosed with certain conditions.
Generally, laser hair treatment is not painful, but the sensation is different. Each pulse resembles the feeling of a rubber band snapping against the skin for a moment. Pain is only felt while the laser is hitting the skin; it doesn’t last. Most people do not require numbing cream, though it can be applied for more sensitive patients before the procedure.
Our board-certified dermatologist can help diagnose you properly and carry out the laser treatment using the best approved treatment type (ND-YAG).
